Every year, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on 5th September in India, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, an exemplary teacher, philosopher, and the second President of India. This day is more than just a calendar event; it is a celebration of wisdom, guidance, and the sacred bond between a teacher and student.
From classrooms to life lessons, from spiritual Gurus to academic mentors, teachers shape not just our careers but also our character. In Indian culture, the Guru is revered as the highest guide, for it is through their wisdom that one finds the path to light.
At Devaasya, we believe in celebrating the eternal connection between Gurus and divine wisdom. Just as our idols and spiritual décor pieces bring calmness, positivity, and strength into homes, a teacher’s presence fills life with direction and meaning.
India has always placed teachers at the pinnacle of respect. In fact, the ancient shloka beautifully defines their importance:
“Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara, Guru Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah.”
This translates to:
The Guru is Brahma, who creates knowledge.
The Guru is Vishnu, who preserves wisdom.
The Guru is Maheshwara (Shiva), who transforms ignorance into enlightenment.
The Guru is the Supreme God himself.
Thus, in Indian philosophy, the teacher is not just an educator but a divine guide who shows the path to truth and self-realization.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was not just a President but primarily a teacher, philosopher, and guide to countless students. When his pupils requested to celebrate his birthday, he humbly said:
"Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day."
This humble thought reflects the true essence of a teacher – selflessness, service, and dedication.
While we often associate teachers with schools and colleges, in truth, a teacher can be anyone who guides us.
Parents – Our first teachers who instill values.
Friends – Who share experiences and life lessons.
Spiritual Gurus – Who show the path of peace, meditation, and self-awareness.
Life itself – With its ups and downs, it teaches us resilience and strength.
At Devaasya, we particularly highlight the role of spiritual Gurus, as they provide a deeper connection between worldly life and divine energy. Just as our Lord Shiva Dhyana Mudra idol symbolizes meditation and inner calm, a Guru helps us achieve balance amidst chaos.
In today’s fast-paced world, we often forget to pause and thank those who shaped our journeys. Teachers’ Day is a reminder that gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions.
A small message of thanks can bring joy to your teacher.
A thoughtful gift can symbolize respect.
A few words of appreciation can make their lifelong effort worthwhile.
Just as offering prayers to deities fills our homes with positivity, offering gratitude to teachers fills our hearts with fulfillment.
Here are a few ways you can make this day special:
1. Personalized Thank You Notes – A handwritten letter can touch the heart of any teacher.
2. Spiritual Gifts – Idols, décor items, or meditation tools make thoughtful gifts for Gurus and mentors.
3. Acts of Service – Offer help, support, or kindness in return for their guidance.
4. Spreading Wisdom – Share your teacher’s lessons with others to keep their legacy alive.
5. Meditation and Reflection – Spend time in silence, recalling the values taught by your Gurus.
At Devaasya, many of our customers choose idols like Lord Ganesha (the remover of obstacles) or Lord Shiva (the supreme teacher of yoga and meditation) as gifts of gratitude to their teachers.
